This assignment challenges students to observe and record objective information in the round. It challenges and harnesses the student's ability to work with proportion and scale as well as ceramic color and surface.
Ceramics 1: Wheel Throwing
This assignment puts new students on the pottery wheel so they can become acquainted with its use. Altering the thrown vessels is required, as well as investigations in form and surface. The challenge is presented to the students to think outside of the circle and use the wheel as a means to an end, not the end itself.
Ceramics 1: Duality and Pun
The use of playful concept is brought into the Duality/Pun project. Students create objects that combine two polarized ideas. Humor is encouraged, though not a requirement.
Ceramics 1: Narrative Vessel
Students bring in a personal story that has some connection to food. They combine the story with a vessel that may correlate to a certain food. The size of the objects is increased and the vessels are made of multiple parts. Students also encouraged the trials of combining concept with function.
