Jamie demonstrates how she handbuilds a bowl form and then sculpts directly onto the wall of the bowl. This is a great workshop for learning to sculpt using the interior and exterior of a wall surface. This workshop is an edited version of a workshop that she dual-presented with Stuart Asprey called Figure and Facade in July 2020.

Those familiar with crystalline glazes are used to using a catcher for the excess glaze that runs off their pots. But what if you didn't need those things? What if you were able to glaze in such a way that the glaze ran minimally and you no longer needed the catchers nor the finish grinding?
This session of Controlling Crystalline Glazes: Reduce the Running and the Variance addresses the way the consistency of the glaze and how it is applied can create the most non-running success. Andy gives tips for topics such as specific gravity, dipping the glaze and how long he holds it in the bucket for that "just right" amount of glaze.

Those familiar with crystalline glazes are used to using a catcher for the excess glaze that runs off their pots. But what if you didn't need those things? What if you were able to alter glazes in such a way that the glaze ran minimally and you no longer needed the catchers nor the finish grinding?
This session of "Controlling Crystalline Glazes: Reduce the Running and the Variance" addresses the research techniques that Boswell uses to change his glazes in such a way that the glazes run far less than traditional crystalline glazes.
We hope you enjoy this hybrid workshop and the back and forth between presenter, in-person participants and those in the virtual workshop chat. Because the workshop was recorded with a live studio audience, you hear other dialog that is pertinent to crystalline glazed pottery, such as firing schedules, glaze chemistry and acid etching.

Those familiar with crystalline glazes are used to using a catcher for the excess glaze that runs off their pots. But what if you didn't need those things? What if the forms you made could make the glaze run minimally and you no longer needed the catchers nor the finish grinding?
This session of "Controlling Crystalline Glazes: Reduce the Running and the Variance" demonstrates the different forms that Boswell creates that accommodate the extra glaze and create a place for it to rest near the foot. He discusses vertical versus horizontal forms and the consideration of food safety. Much of the throwing is step-by-step, so this is a fantastic workshop for those who want a lesson in throwing great utilitarian pottery forms.

In the course of this two-hour workshop, Sam will demonstrate the processes she uses to create one of her clothing-inspired textured mugs. Her techniques include plaster texture slabs, mono-printed low relief textures, layers of stained porcelain, soft-slab construction and slab-built handles. Come see how she uses these different tools and steps to translate her reclaimed garments into lasting functional tableware. While she’s working she will fill you in on her design choices and the stories behind the garments she uses in her work.

Do you want to add some imagery to your work, but struggle, or are too nervous to draw directly on the surface of the pot? Maybe you feel like you're not the best at drawing, or just can't make it what you want on such a curvy canvas? Maybe you've tried slip transfer before and it doesn't seem to work out for you as it does for everyone else on Instagram? Join Amanda Bury for a two-hour workshop that will give you practical insights into how to successfully gather and/or create images, play with scale, trailing slip on your transfer, and how to successfully transfer the image onto a greenware surface. Amanda will demonstrate transferring the image to the slipped surface of a yunomi (cup) but this surface technique can be applied to any greenware surface of any form. If time allows- other decoration topics may include adding sgraffito and stamping to create a varied surface.

Join Amanda Bury as she guides us through the techniques she uses to create different forms that are NOT water-tight. In fact, that is exactly the point: these pots are designed to let water, air or light pass through them. Discover unique techniques to make forms that are cut, drilled and pierced in order to create breathable forms. Imagine forms like berry bowls, colanders, garlic boxes, lanterns and more. Special highlights will include the firmness of the clay, timing, helpful tools and creative ways of considering surface decoration once a form has so many negative spaces.
